Expedia 12% workforce cut 🚙💨

"Amazon was all work and no life, and at Expedia, it was all life and no work" - CNN 😮

Sounds good.

Wait for Cisco

Amazon diaosi2020 Feb 25, 2020

lol it is about time amazon teaches those suckers how to do business and how not to throw investor money at perks

F5 Networks MnLl62 Feb 25, 2020

Don't think Expedia had much perk wise? They just blew a ton of money moving to Seattle for no reason though.

Expedia Group hooli-gan Feb 25, 2020

Ceo and chairman , along with the leadership made a lot of bad decisions. Then the ceo took a golden parachute and the chairman prefers to blame ICs. Today was a sad day

Cmon Dude! Expedia has the most substandard technology stack I have ever seen. I was part of Vrbo and were arm twisted by Expedia to get onto their platform. The platform that we were being asked to move onto was hilariously bad and poorly architected. The engineers told us that they can’t scale to meet our needs and when we suggested to use our system instead which was much more scalable and in AWS, we were told “We bought you, you did not buy us. You move to our platform” I am glad Expedia is going through a culling. Hopefully, they can slice of the extreme layer of fat in terms of mediocre talent, Starr paying for top notch talent and upgrades their tech stack so that it represents something out of the 20th century

I don’t want to discuss vrbo stack here. This was and is not a technology issue either.

link?

Someone calling out tech ppl for the whole mess is a joke. Bad strategy, losing competitive edge was part of the reason why this lay off happened. Ppl working on bigger platform program are the ones worst hit and there are many good performers too in it.

Because at Amazon that is expected.

Expedia Group sadpanda🐼 Feb 26, 2020

Also, they cut great people, not just low performers.

Expedia Group exEGer Feb 26, 2020

This place is like communism. They keep the dumb/ass-kissing/groupthink ones and lay off the strong people who know how to do their job and who has the audacity to question and challenge them. If there was anything I should have known better, is that the only way to survive here is to either be on a team that has so much turnover and you’re the only one left behind to carry the whole team, and/or just kiss as many asses as you can and nod at everything they say and ask you to do. If you’re a type A or Amazonian-like worker, good luck surviving here; and even if you do survive, good luck getting promoted

sounds like booking.. btw if you wanna work for booking ping me.

Expedia Group rockierock Feb 26, 2020

Lesson learned: If you’re an Amazonian-type, don’t work elsewhere. Work at Amazon. Embodying Amazon’s LPs can get anyone in trouble every time if the culture isn’t there to support it. Backbone comes back to hunt every time. 😔

I like that. Jerks do not like to called jerks.
