I am evaluating two competing offers from Expedia Gurgaon (counter-offer) and Walmart Labs in Bangalore. The money on offer is similar. I am wondering which one is a better company in terms of work culture and benefits. I have heard that WML India really gets projects "dumped" by the US org. Is that true? Current TC: 65 L YoE: 13 Raise offered: 25% on both sides. WML includes RSU while Expedia is mostly hard cash.

What you've heard is true. Domain is king in Walmart Labs, not tech. I worked there for 2 years and didn't find any engineering best practices there. They're okay if you push buggy code to production and support day and night. They assign a project and give you 3-6 months to push to production and you are evaluated based on that, so people are in a hurry to code something and just deploy. Lot of the managers are there to advance thier own careers by making the team overwork/micromanage, rest are there to retire. They are on a mass hiring spree and the culture is messed up. Hikes are substandard and they have forced stack ranking ( you might ask why implement this and overhire as well.. no one knows), lot of politics. Most of them are leaving or planning to leave. Very high attrition. Some teams are good though, but i wouldn't recommend it since it's quite risky. If you had asked the same question a couple of years back, i would have said Walmart Labs, but not anymore. Because you know, times change :)
Which city is more expensive? What is the TC in USD?
Bangalore is more expensive. It is the tech centre of India. And its way way more civilized than Gurgaon. OP's Current TC is $93k
Thanks
If you can share something about the pillar or team , I can provide more relevant info. In general it is a good place. The employee benefits are decent. Engineering in several orgs is quite good , while in some its meh . There is a culture to ship things fast and if you will have to support the service if it has issues. This might lead to an impact in WLB. Also it is not that non interesting projects are dumped from us , sometimes it is the opposite (read dollar rupee ) arbitrage .In fact benefits in India offices are more than US. If you are in right team you might get a chance to drive and own high impact projects,.
Can you tell me more about pillars at WML? I'll source more info and post here
Are above details about Expedia or Walmart ?
Your choice is simple. Traffic or pollution?
From what I know, Expedia doesn't have a Sr. EM role. It's EM (level M) and then Director (level N). So how do the two roles correspond now?
Look at Expedia stock today. Walmart RSUs have four year vesting but they include that in TC
So, what is your opinion? Go with Expedia?
Any further insights, folks?
Expedia India for sure
Why?
OP where are you currently?
