So Expedia Group is laying off three thousand employees (and cutting an unspecified number of contractors) worldwide, and I fail to see how they decide whom to let go. For example, my manager had a long tenure, been a top performer consistently, and been spearheading a major project that continued to be crucial to the company, yet he was let go a day before me. The project will go on, but now in the hands of people who knows neither tech nor business. Oh well, who am I to comment on that? Barry Diller is a seasoned businessman. I hope he knows what he's doing with his company.

They let go of very critical and seasoned engineers that were high performing and very good engineers with plenty of responsibility. The only reason we could come up with was that they were working on an innovative new project that didn’t perform well and so they scrapped everyone involved. That’s a good way to kill any motivation to work on any new project...
Can I ask what innovative project? Surprised innovation got scuttled first.
It was the project to unify our travel companies and create a platform that our brands can all leverage. Long term vision was to allow this platform to be used by other companies as well
Yeah it wasn't just cutting the fat as Barry said, a lot of good engineers have been let go and some of the bad actors still remain as they had good rapport high above.
Cut the muscle and leave the fat.
Muscle is too tough. Barry likes his companies like his wagyu steaks
