I am currently interviewing for role with Expedia. The recruiter told me in addition to the base salary, equity will be added but no bonus. Is this normal for tech companies or Expedia?
It's normal for Expedia. As a result, everyone's base salary has a bump. It also depends on if you prefer a bonus structure OR having a slightly higher salaru. As for tech, it depends on the company. Amazon and Oracle does the same. Base salary + equity with no bonuses. Plenty of other companies have bonuses too (Google, Meta, Microsoft.) Performance is rewarded by equity now, instead of a bonus.
And just to add to that RSU will be less (for me it was measly 5% last year)
HR detected.
Hell no, I got an offer from them early Jan this year and bonus was included
No bonus but base is higher and still lower than other tech companies. Keep expedia as last option!
Is there anything wrong with expedia currently ?
Base pay is less than the median of the mkt. Annual cash bonus policy is no more in action. Equities are peanuts and Expedia's stock is not promising either (temporary bumps exist though). Annual bonus equity is the new policy but you will get peanuts. I worked my ass off and delievered a lot, at the end of the year they gave me 50% of the bonus written on my offer letter(I joined 1 year before the new policy) and that too subjected to the condition of completing 1 more year. Expedia should be your last option. PS : WLB is not in every team btw.
Sad to hear what you have been to, I understand how disappointed it could be.
What are some benefits that outweigh the bonus aspect?
Wellness Reimbursement - you will be reimbursed against bills of fitness items capped at different amount for each band. Don't ask the amount here. Ask your HR. Commute Allowance - Monthly payout for fuel capped same for each band. Paid Time-Off - Expedia offers tons of leaves. Again it's confidential so don't ask the number here. Free food is a hoax. Capping is too small, so that's not a benefit.
These benefits don't outweigh the bonus. These are just FYI.
Last year Expedia got rid of their cash bonus and raised base salary (at least for existing employees). There are annual RSUs but it only goes to a certain percentage of people based on job level. Example 50% level Ls get RSUs and 50% get zero.
