I have got offers from Expedia India and Microsoft India YOE: 7 MS: Level 62, Base 35LPA Bonus 10% avg Stocks 85k USD JB 3+2 TC for first yr: 55 + 3 Expedia: Senior Software Engineer Base 47 (including PF), Bonus 17.5%, Stocks 35k USD JB 4+3 TC: this is tricky to calculate since I dont know how much bonus can be expected so it maybe 0 too. So the range is (54 to 61) + 4 Stocks vesting is same for both, 25% per yr. With expedia I dont have to relocate so I will save on rent. Only critical hiring is being done in expedia right now. Expedia pros: more money in hand, better position work on open source tech MS pros: stability I am leaning towards MS right now but just wanted to have views from blinders. There is risk in expedia but I will save a lot and there can be good growth. But at the same time if travel does not revive there may be poor hikes and 0 bonus in expedia in future. These are the final offers no negotiation possible. What are your views? Worth taking risk?
Which team in MS ?
One of the security product
I would recommend MSFT but beware the work won't be ideal 😉
Agree with yydgj above. While it is still a risk but I feel it is a risk worth taking. Expedia base is what you deserve at yoe 7. Ask Expedia for more stocks.
You should read more about layoffs at Expedia. Most of the senior folks have jumped the sinking ship. They have layed off a significant chunk and are still firing people, but now in a subtle way by picking 3-4 in a week instead of mass layoffs. Apart from that, there is way too much chaos and politics at the top most level. They kinda fight amongst themselves for projects. And it will take atleast 1-1.5years for travel to be back in terms of tourism. So I'd probably suggest Microsoft. You've got the best deal for a Level 62 guy. Maybe you can ask for more Joining Bonus from Microsoft. And in general Microsoft's stocks will definitely progress more than Expedia in near future atleast. So look at the bigger picture.
It’s a cleanup to make the way for new & young talent
Yea. Was living under the same impression for past 3 years. It's the same show of uncertainty every year, every quarter. And this time, it's more for cost cutting, not for "new & young talent" Every upper management guy trying to save his / her ass. Add to that the shitty quality of PMs and TPMs who are not willing to put in efforts. Just want to conduct meetings to blabber about too vague discussion with no details. No clarity on the product or requirements. They've kinda dropped the hiring standards as well.
Expedia
Don't join Expedia. GDS's are the worst...
Expedia is not a GDS lmao
I meant even interacting with gds is pain.
Msft no brainer. You can always retry Expedia a year later after assessing the market conditions.
@OP, Expedia giving ON-Hire Stocks? Base is too high at 7 yoe. Which team is it? Even if I assume Bonus to be zero(which is the worst case with very low probability) , Expedia TC is better
Microsoft without a doubt
I cant speak to India location or the role opportunities....but Expedia is in rough waters. I would probably choose MSFT just in general....

No brainer - Join Expedia. Travel will come back eventually so growth potential for stock is much higher.
Working at HQ & I can assure you the future is bright for Expedia GGN . Your job is very stable.
Disagree with above. If travel rebounds slower than expected we will have additional layoffs and it could be new people.
