The job tittle is senior research scientist & tech lead. It’s a series E startup with about 1000 employees.

They are asking my wife about salary expectation. She hasn’t been on market for years and so doesn’t really know how much she should ask. She’s making 150K right now.

Another offer-to-be is from a public company and the role is similar. They are also asking about salary expectations.

Pls advise. Any info is useful!!
thanks!!

Finalized: 165K base 15% bonus and 30K stock over 4 years. Bay Area.

Base salary may be around $150K with RSUs $60-80K over 4 years and up to 10-15% annual bonus. Check Glassdoor. From recent interviews with Masimo, Medtronic, Neurocrine, Abbott and AbbVie.

At MSFT? Biotech salaries around 50% of tech salaries for the same titles.

Recruiters and hiring managers from biotech/pharma usually start conversation saying that their salaries are comparable with tech.

Is it possible for her to come back and ask about “the band for this role?” I’ve noticed in-house biotech recruiters have been more upfront about $ recently.

Also, she should contact her friends in a similar role (eg friends from grad school) if they mind sharing “a range for this type of position”. Asking them for a range rather than an exact # is super important and she may even want to ask them in person or with a phone call rather than via email.
