Google and Facebook drop, Microsoft rises and Amazon is still nowhere to be found on Glassdoor's best companies list where HubSpot, In-n-Out and DocuSign lead https://www.bloomberg.com/amp/news/articles/2019-12-11/big-tech-companies-slide-in-annual-best-places-to-work-survey
Do they have better foosball tables?
Amazon will never be on that list until the warehouse/retail workers get a change in working environment. Not applicable to 99.99999% of blind users who are not warehouse workers there. No surprise.
I feel like that’s applicable. Why stress out and work hard in the effort to make warehouse workers more injury-prone? Every effort a SWE does leads to increased efficiency at a biological cost to the rest of the company. It seems like something that I would constantly weigh and consider, even if you simply do what the overlords command.
While I understand your point (and a good one), you're missing MY point. The point being WLB at Amazon [in corporate] can be just fine, depending on role and team, JUST like Google or FB. The only reason Blind hates Amazon is because they attribute the WLB/conditions of retail workers to corp as well and ironically some Googlers have worse WLB than some Amazonians, unlike what Blind likes to portray. With employing 700k+ people and Glassdoor amazon has a 3.8 rating, and majority of people on there are rating from the retail side. Google has a what? 4.1? Great job google! Blind users are actually blind.
This is so dumb. The things that make a burger flipper happy are different than what makes a FAANG engineer happy. The bar for happiness of a In-N-Out worker is substantially lower than an engineer.
This is some of the most elitist crap I've read in a long time. Pray tell, what satisfies these sub-humans so much more easily than the superior big brains of a SWE? Pretty sure everyone, regardless of role or caste, is just looking for a little bit of happiness, love and safety. Whether you get that by flipping burgers or writing code is immaterial. If you're happy, you're happy.
^ you’re kidding, right? It’s absolutely not about the “superiority” or “sub-human”-ness of the people. It’s what they’re used to, what they expect because of hearing about things from their peers. Someone who works at In-n-out is not comparing his job against someone at google. It’s not that the Google engineer is superior, but they have different, and maybe higher expectations based on the stuff all their friends keep telling them about the cool new “whatever” at their new office. The kind of benefits that engineers are lucky to have are often taken for granted because they become too entitled and keep expecting more. So yeah, it’s all about managing expectations and nothing elitist like you tried to spin this off. Unfortunately, “happiness, love and safety” is a pretty big fucking blanket statement. You have to agree that what makes you happy might not make me happy. Why do you have to be superior/inferior to me just because of that fact?
Time to give up SWE to become a shitty course marketer
Working in software engineering has become more stressful that food services (I’d believe it if the job is anything like mine)
You work at Microsoft 🤨
Glassdoor is full of fake reviews posted by internal recruiters or employees pressured by them to post positive reviews. Good companies like Google don't bother with that nonsense since they don't have any problems attracting candidates

They're the new Albertson's. Albertson's is the new Google. Google is the new Cisco.
