Google, I'm looking at you, since I use most of your products. FAANG people are clearly not stupid. But as a consumer of your services, I can't remember when you ever rolled out 'feature improvement' I wanted. Why the disconnect? You guys are so great, but your consumer facing product sucks more and more. Is it me, or do people agree? I'll give concrete examples: 1) Just today my old gmail interface reverted to the new clunkier and slower interface even after I explicitly downgraded, and now I can't find the option to downgrade back. 2) Same thing happens a few years back you introduced today's interface which is slower and clunkier than the one a few years back. 3) Your new YouTube interface sucks and I had to implement hacks to get back the old one. The new interface loads video slower and crash my browser. 4) In order to compose an email where I have all information including title, to/from I have to click like a zillion times before I get to that interface, and it didn't use to be like that. To everyone else: You guys keep removing functionality or hiding it under ten clicks from the main website. Why? Can you seriously just leave my shit alone? I don't want your 'improvements'.
Do not use google. Google is new microsoft.
Inertia. I may have pinpointed Google but it's not just them. Every feature improvement on many diff company website as far as I can remember, I have always been unhappy and it takes a shit ton of googling to figure out how to disable and revert back.
Nobody is the new Microsoft. Only Microsoft is the new Microsoft is the new Microsoft. Only Microsoft has mastered the art of same shit different day to a level unheard of, and that is one achievement that no one else can unlock.
I think they are being pressured internally to make new things in order to get promotions. Therefore people suggest new features just to use it as a stepping stone to a new promotion instead of the feature actually being requested or wanted.
Embrace change
I was on a prep interview call with FAANG and the “prepper” walked through a feature design example. The example model she came up with was all about revenue for the FAANG org not looking at value from the customer POV. I was fairly shocked.
Thumb rule: don’t complain about free things. Else quit using them.
Yeah but gmail enterprise is definitely not free
Point taken.
Add killing inbox to that.
Without exception the updates that you don’t like were added to improve revenue flow. That’s why they don’t look like anyone was thinking of you, because they weren’t. They had some data drive intelligence that suggested that screwing up your YouTube homepage or your Snapchat stories would potentially drive revenues, and they needed to take the risk because of internal and external pressures.
That makes sense actually lol. Make for $ and fuck the customers who complain since they still keep using it anyway.
its actually a common bias that when things change they get worse (because you are used to the old thing, anything new almost automatically has friction)
UI people are overworked, underpaid, and under appreciated lol The product doesn’t have real competition. So they don’t care. Good UI is actual what brings people in. Good backend is what keeps them there.

That's what we strive for. After reading this post, looks like we are succeeding in it.
If you're optimizing for inefficiency, increasing number of clicks I need to do my tasks, and customer dissatisfaction, keep up the good work.
More likely: OP has outdated device or browser.
