just found out the position i interviewed for was filled. the recruiter said my interview was really good and that they can circle back to me in a few weeks if another similar position opens up. my question is: has anyone ever ended up getting a job this way? i guess im wondering if it was a polite way to say no, or if this happens a lot?
Did the recruiter say you would need to reinterview for the other position?
She said it depended on the position 🤔
but that it would be expedited
Which level and yoe? Isn’t fb general hiring?
It’s for leadership positions so I think it’s harder to do general hiring. M2, 18yoe
There are lots of open M2 roles here, but at that level of seniority (TC>$1M) you tend to interview for a particular role. Can you say anything about the role for which you were interviewing without doxing yourself? Congrats either way, but that also sounds like they found a better candidate but the recruiter wants to keep you warm for other roles.
I think you probably shouldn’t trust recruiters to remember this stuff, and if you’re very interested, to follow up with the recruiter in a week or two. Otherwise in my experience, you do at least end up with an email from the recruiter in a few months-a year when they do the next hiring push. Usually right when you’re not interested, of course!
That makes sense! I’ll follow up since I really was interested in other positions if they pop up. How often do hiring pushes happen at places like FB?
I’m not sure for FB since I never applied there, but Amazon reaches out every six months or so, and Google about once a year. Maybe someone here from FB would know more?
I had a similar situation, also a management role. Never heard back from the recruiter, even after following up couple times.

Top red flags in guy to see before saying yes to marriage (arranged)
I don't think recruiters have any trouble saying no.
Hm good point. Hoping they don’t like to just string people along
