Potential L4 offer at Uber in an exciting group but the offer sounds like it’s going to be < 300TC (Don’t have final numbers yet). Current TC is >300 but I am bored and what to do something different. Stay or go? Ex FAANG Folks here who took a pay cut to go to Uber in the past year please chime in.
What’s your current level at Apple?
Definitely No for FNG. Yes for AMZN. Maybe for AAPL. I think you should go only if they match your current TC ( based on their new 409a price).
How was the onsite interview? How hard were the design Q's? Have an onsite coming up.
I would leave AAPL for Uber even if there is a modest comp drop because Uber engineering is stronger and will open more doors then staying at AAPL and you are already bored and want to go.
No. If a company not willing to match your comp, it means it does not care about you, and it is a shit company.
Or that they are conscious of avoiding raising costs as they get close to IPO so your equity ends up being worth more
I think with Uber it’s a little harder matching when you are downleveled because they (supposedly) have very strict pay bands and it’s hard to go out of band.. Not sure if it’s true though..
That is after negotiating?
It’s in progress. They might come back and match. Waiting on them now..
I interviewed with Uber. Got 5a level. Told me they don’t negotiate. I negotiated anyway and got 3x RSU with 30k salary raise. I didn’t take it at the end tho.
That’s good to know.. what was your initial and final offer?
I took a salary cut to work at Uber. That’s arguably the wisest thing I’ve done in my career.
How long back was this?
Any rough numbers you got to enlighten us?

I would do it as long as it won’t put you in debt. Being excited about work for slightly worse tc is worth it since you’ll perform better and get a raise.
