Can't understand the obsession with FANG. Yes, they pay well; better benefits. But no reason to kill yourself over that. Have you looked at the stock price of AMZN and NFLX this year? Flat. When Nasdaq is up almost 30%. Going back in time: In 2006 Lehman Brothers was certainly a sought after company in Investment Banking. Guess what happened in 2008? No company is too big to fail; no job is worth obsessing about.
Btw the people at Lehman got jobs at other top investment banks after the crash. Branding sticks. Prestige and the brand is why most people obsess over it.
Not all. The equity desk did fine overall. But most of top brass went out. Took people years to get back to their previous comp levels. And the stock comp they had: up in smoke.
Not true, most people were fine, just look at their LinkedIn. If by top brass, you mean top executives, then kind of. These people def got offered great positions after but they weren't comparable to the ones they had at Lehman so they might have not taken them. Overall, they were fine. If people got layed off from GS today, companies would snatch them up.
Its like comparing attending an Ivy league school vs a non ivy league. Its about brand and recognition
Quick question: Which company or the employee of which company invented a transmission method that led to the current wireless revolution? (Hint it was in 1998 that he made this invention)
Which company launched a smartphone that led to the current smartphone revolution? Hint: it’s part of FAANG and was the first U.S. trillion dollar company
It’s a combination of brand prestige ,money and benefits .Overall its the best package
Makes sense. Certainly try for it. Work for getting it. But don't obsess over it.
Also, who invented the term "FANG" and when? And it did not have a fruit in the original acronym.
Some guy who coined the term FAANG that stood for companies whose stock price were yielding good returns
Again FANG. Not FAANG. Jim Cramer coined the term in 2013 to explain the fact that the overall returns were driven by FB, AMZN, NFLX and GOOG. These stocks had amazing performance while the rest of the markets were flat. Point was that this should not be taken as an indication of overall economy. These stocks were also had very high implied volatilities at that time.
FAng may be sour grapes to u but not to everyone so keep ur opinions to urself and go back to ur mediocre job
I sure will. Have a hedgefund and a startup to take care off. Again I appreciate FAANG. All I am saying is don't obsess over it.
dude, what is wrong with you (@Amazon)
Again, these are great companies. Many groups there are doing amazing things. Just don't obsess over these.
You are the one who posted yet another post about FAANG...
Me? This is my first thread about FAANG.
I agree. I have recently been offered a job at one -- a job that would have represented a significant TC boost and prestige. But I turned it down because it required moving across the country, and my family is happy where we are at now. Had to choose between the perfect family and the perfect job, and I chose the former. But in an earlier/different life, I would have moved in a heartbeat.
I think you made the right decision.
Happy family and good job is more important than glamour in career but broken family :)

Job market is horrible.
Yes, but working at a FAANG sets up your career nicely even if the one you happen to work for goes under. You can always jump ship when you see the writing on the wall
