I am preparing to interview with different FANG companies in the next month. I feel prepared with my technical prep for coding interviews and have gone through Grokking Sys Design. I wanted to understand if there are differences in how any of the FANG companies or MSFT, Uber, Airbnb approach their system design interviews. Do these companies ask different kinds of questions during the system design round? Or all they all "Design Twitter"? Thanks. #systemdesign #FANG
Maybe
Yea MSFT is easy af
I have been asked to design oauth, s3, GitHub and a recommendation engine for commonly bought together items (don't use ml) at the fang companies. A lot depends on your interviewer and if you can steer the discussion in the direction where you end up with a straight forward grokking the sys design interview question even if they started at a different place
How would you suggest steering a poor system design problem into a standard "Design Instagram"-like question?
You have to narrow the problem down to specific peices that the interviewer wants to focus on
FANG* are probably more involved than others. Mine were, compared to some other non-FANG companies I interviewed at. * I never interviewed at Apple, but I excluded the A for Amazon because my Amazon interviews were easy af. The hardest part of those is probably coming up with LP answers rather than technical ones.
Can you explain what "LP" means?
Leadership Principles: Amazon's behavioral questions. I totally messed up some of those but still got an offer 😅
