YOE: 5 Education: BS in engineering Offer package: base = 140~150k 10% bonus (avg performance required?) 150k RSU vest over 4 yrs No sign on (b/c the recruiter says unless im leaving cash on the table this won't happen) I did mention I have one more offer coming in, but they didn't ask me which company and I also didn't mention. My question is: Is this a good package? Did I get lowballed? Can I get a better one? If so, how should I negotiate? #facebook #datascience #offer
I'm wondering what's the point of doing DS at FB these days if you still have to pass a coding assessment and get paid less than an SWE. Shouldn't people be going into ML engineering instead?
I believe the coding bar for DS is much lower than ML/SWE. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.
code assessment is light SQL and that’s it. DS at facebooks is similar to a management consulting role, has product responsibility and usually 0 ML
What's your current comp at Apple?
Depends on your level but that offer aligns with what I know other 4s got.
OP, why did they interview you for IC4? Why not IC5. Maybe you could post your level of education. I thought with 5 YOE, especially coming from Apple, that you’d get an offer for IC5. Anyway, what were the interview questions like? What’s your current title/level at Apple? Is the current offer less than your current TC? Regardless, congrats on the offer, it does however look low.
hmm. i think my YOE is total work exp; as DS, only like 1.5 yrs. i guess that changes things..
I got a comparable offer a few months back. Countered with an engineering one that paid over 100k more and got a 30k bump in consistent tc and a 30k bonus on top of that.
so you went to lyft instead? or are you at fb now? over 100k more is insane! and only 30k bump?!
I'm at Lyft. Still, it's two kinda different job families, and Facebook doesn't try to compete as hard for non-eng. That being said, since they still came up 50k short, my guess is that was pretty much the max package for the role
Tbh that seems in the expected range unless you counter with another offer.
