How do Facebook and Google engineering cultures compare to each other? I have offers from Google and couple pre IPO companies and considering what's the best move.

Go to Google not for growth or money, but to get the education of how to be a good engineer. Then go wherever you want after a couple years.

Lol google is where you go if you want to settle down. Join search or ads teams and make minor changes to existing algorithms to gain more ad revenue. Unless you are in some exotic project vast majority is dedicated to getting more ad revenue.

That's not what I meant. You get to work on shitty projects, yes. So you don't grow. But you work alongside in teams headed by people defining the industry standards, like Jeff Dean for ML or Eric Brewer who was the author of the CAP theorem, or the guy who built mapreduce or the one building spanner. And participate in the decisions even if as an audience. Internalize the processes, the best practices. Read design docs to catch up on past decisions and projects. The opportunity to learn is immense. Think of it as taking a 20 credit course after graduation with great lectures but homework that's minor in scale and size. You will work on narrow stuff though, so those who learn only by doing will not benefit much.
