FB IC7 Offer ... Room To Negotiate?

Got an IC7 offer for a non SWE role in Seattle and trying to assess whether it's low and if/how I want to approach negotiating. Base: 235K Bonus: 25% Equity: 750k Signon: 40K Most of the numbers I've seen on here and levels.fyi have been on the SWE track (E6/E7) but there's limited data on the non-SWE side. So I am having a hard time assessing. Questions: Is this a strong offer? What do salary merit increases for Meets All Expectations look like at FB these days? (i.e. more of a cost-of-living type increase like the 3-5% range or is it more/less significant on average?) What are stock refreshers looking like for non-SWE IC7s? I've searched for these answers on Blind but realizing there's a significant enough difference between SWE and non-SWE TC that I thought I'd ask explicitly about my circumstance. Your input would be appreciated. (PS. This is my first post on Blind so please forgive me if I am not following typical protocols) #offer #facebook #tech

I’d say an approx TC of $490k is strong for a designer, and IC7 at FB is extremely rare. What are your current numbers? I think the IC5 TC for design at FB tops out at maybe 300, and it’s tough to come in at a higher level. If this is a massive leap in comp and scope, you should take it. What team?

Congrats - L7+ product designer is very, very rare in FB. My SO manages multiple design teams there and she has not a single L7. You must be really click with at least one or multiple D1+ in the loop. Offer wise you probably won’t get too much information here as I mentioned it’s very rare to get hired as L7. If I have to judge from the m2 compensation perspective, base is a bit low, bonus is the same, RSU is about right, and sign on you can negotiate more. FB salary increase is all based on formula and your manager has no say whatsoever. The more you below the mid point of salary band and the higher your rating is, the more merit increase it is. For greatly exceed or redefine (I.e promotion) you can expect > 10% or even 15%. For RSU, the general rule is that designer gets about half of what SWE gets (or say 1 level lower). It changes every year. You can probably dig on MA target RSU for E6 for comparison. Congrats again!

Bonus % is fixed per level so nothing to negotiate there. Salary is reasonable for PD, obviously E7 is typically a bit higher but 235 is probably about average for design IC7. (I am currently also non-SWE IC7, salary at promo was 230 then bumped to 242 a year later. Not a designer but anecdotally seems to have similar salary range to what I’ve seen for designers.) Equity is by far the “squishiest” part where there’s typically the most room to negotiate. 750 is probably somewhere around half of a typical E7 new grant when I think in-general design equity comp is more than that — something closer to 60ish% of SWE maybe. All that to say, offer overall looks decent and certainly not a lowball and as others said coming in at 7 is rare / difficult. Salary it’s possible you may be able to get them to bump another 5 or 10k but it’s likely to be more difficult than negotiating a bigger bump in equity comp. You could probably push for 900k equity as a reasonable counter and see what happens, though may depend on your leverage (current TC / competing offers, etc).

Out of curiosity what do stock refreshers look like for non-SWE IC7?

E7 refresher the last couple years has been around 400K. For non-SWE it’s heavily dependent on the specific job role. In-general it seems like each role may be pegged to some % of SWE equity at the same level that applies equally to initial and refresher grants. For some roles they get 15-25% of SWE equity while others are more like 75%. For design I think it’s in the neighborhood of 50-60%.

This has got to be a ton more than what you’re making at Zillow. Take it

Our stock is quite high now relative to when I joined, making the gap between the current and offer much less dramatic.
