It wouldn’t be a post without numbers first.
Twitter - 180k base, 600k stock over 4 years, 20% Target bonus (clarified this number 5x and its in my offer letter. I think ML group has higher bonus target). Refresher is very murky but I’ve confirmed internally that it does exist. Negligible 401k match.
FB - 160k base, 320k/4, the usual L4 bonus/refresher
FB won’t budge on numbers, it’s possible I didn’t crush the interview. Either way outside of more comp, Twitter gives me the coveted L5 title, outsized impact potential given the team and lack of rigid hierarchy and generally left me with a better impression on the work and WLB.
In comparison FB has a super long commute and feels like a bit of a code farm. I wasn’t completely unenthused by the teams and work but I overall had a more culty feel from them. Coming from Uber I sort of prefer the urban no frills “just do your work” culture vs the food truck campus paradisio.
If it sounds like my mind is made up that’s because it basically is. My main question is whether I’m missing something or making a huge mistake per the Blind opinion. Inb4 I’m an idiot for considering this.
Also as far as why I’m leaving Uber, I came in as a new grad with a shitty offer. I learned a ton and was on some awesome teams but at the point that I want to chase comp and new opportunities.

The strongest argument for Twitter is commute. If you are focused on comp/career and willing to put in the work - I would pick FB and move closer to avoid commute
