Current - Amazon Sr.PM, Retail, 210k, Seattle YoE - MBA + 6 (2 as PM post MBA and 4 as a data analyst pre-MBA) Question - FB recruiter reached out for a PM role (flexible with level depending on interview). I am tired with the wlb at Amazon (approx 55 hrs/week) and have heard terrible things about wlb at FB as well. I know that FB will pay better if I can get E5 but I want to make a move to a company with better wlb only. Any thoughts on the FB Wlb as compared to Amazon ?
Current TC is 210k?
Yes, that’s the current TC
Depending on the product area, which could require an extensive travel, you might be clocking many more hours. But you’re likely to double your comp by moving to FB. One thing that is certain is that you’re in the wrong team in retail.
When you say you’re in the wrong team in retail, do you mean All of Retail is bad and hence I should move out of Retail or are you saying Retail should be chiller and I am in the wrong team within Retail ?
You shouldn’t be working that much in Retail.
As an IC5 PM, expect your TC to be in the range of ~300-350k. Good news is that the comp would the same for Menlo Park/NYC/Seattle - with the most number of teams/opportunities in Menlo Park (HQ). WLB would probably be clocking 100-125% of the 40 hrs work week, if not less.
45-50 hours per week sounds fair and what also matters is how intense these hours are in terms of execution. On our team, we are constantly launching one feature after another at a crazy rate and hence the 55-60 hours that I work are very intense in terms of keeping things moving and getting stuff done. Is that the case at FB too ?
IC5 PM is 300K. WLB varies a lot but on certain orgs 70 hours a week is common
70 sounds brutal, how common is that and is it easy to switch teams if I land up in one of those teams.
I would say it’s VERY unusual for PMs to work less than 50 hours a week.
I agree, have seen that Amazon as well. Are those intense 50 hours in your opinion at FB ?
Yes. If you don’t want intense go join marketing or HR
I heard PMM salaries are on the lower end. Is it mainly because of number of hours they clock in ?
If WLB is your main motivation, I wouldn’t move to FB
I like my job and work but the wlb is what makes me hate my job. So if I move to another job, I don’t want to be stuck with the same problem

The new Tesla Model 3 P goes from 0-60 in 2.9 seconds
I will leave it foe for the folks from FB to comment but can it get worse than Amazon?
