FB and Google are overrated.

Do they have great engineers and talent? Absolutely. They also have great pay and perks. Not taking that away. But what do they really have?

FB - the tide is turning and there's nothing more I can say that hasn't been said by their ex-executives. But at the end of the day, they have an addictive ad-powered product that kind of sucks and is starting to get backlash from the public while also putting themselves as risk of regulation with this whole "undermining our democracy" thing.

Google - you killed search, congrats. But ads is your thing, and it's not going to be the cash cow forever. Are you going to have voice search ads? Of course not. How are you going to monetize voice search? Hint: build the world's largest e-commerce company and integrate it. What else have they done? Gmail? Ads. Glasses? Cars? The only two semi successful things I can think of they basically copied from Amazon, and are well behind on (Home and Cloud).

It just seems like both these companies struck gold with ads, and that well will someday dry up in their current forms. They both have all this cool moonshot stuff they've done with their excess billions, but none of it has had a big impact. I'm sure they'll hang on for another decade or two, but unless they do something revolutionary, eventually the moonshots will lose funding and they'll be shells of their former selves.

Got an Amazon offer last year at the same time as Google’s. Google offer 20% higher.
I could not care less about the your arguments.

Right that makes sense. I just can't think of any other way to buy things that doesn't involve voice or the internet or pressing a button (like Dash). We'll see what the future holds.

I don't know either, or I'd be out building it. May be, the future will be where you can check out the object of your interest in VR, get much better way to evaluate the choices and pick it. Now, Amazon has brand recognition and user base, but if someone beats it to tech and joins up with someone else like Wal-Mart for supply chain, they may be able to break Amazon's monopoly. Of course, anything can happen and most of the time, what we predict doesn't happen. But I'm just saying there are possibilities.
