Are big tech companies who develop cutting edge dev tools for internal use doing so because THE BEST minds are already hired and there’s a limit on how brilliant someone can be to boost productivity so they’re creating tools to increase dev productivity since that’s a market they see can either boost revenue or reduce cost? It seems these companies are following the AWS pattern, build some tooling for yourself then realize/plan to make it commercial and sell. Lower barrier of entry than cloud and wider open market

They’re doing so because the best dev tools make “the best minds” the most productive
Is there any data supporting using heads to build those tools is better use of time/money than say put those heads on a revenue generating project?
