I've been offered E6 at FB (as an engineer). Given the horror stories I've read about PIP and terrible WLB for E6's, I'd like to ask for E5 instead. Money isn't everything for me, and I'd rather grow into the role & hit the ground running, than come in too high and flame out. How can I ask for a lower level? Could this raise too many eyebrows & cause them to revoke their offer? EDIT: I asked for E5, and they agreed (after going to considerable lengths to convince me to take the E6). #facebook
Current tc and level. More data points will help.
Yoe?
Interesting, I turned down E6 for this reason, curious to see how this works out for you. I never thought to ask for a downlevel.
Might be weird, and indicate lack of confidence. Are you at an equivalent level at Microsoft? I’d honesty just go with L6 - you might have a rough landing but you have to back yourself.
You should talk to your recruiter and also any managers you speak with for sell calls. You’re not the only one who’s ever felt this. Let someone inside Facebook give you their experience and talk through how to manage your life inside and outside of work.
Blind is not reality.
Amen to that. This forum is toxic af
very true
Go for the 6.
They wouldn't offer E6 if they didn't think you are capable of performing at that level. Take the higher level (and TC) and don't look back. Also, please tell us how you managed to land E6. How many YoE do you have?
13 YOE. As for how I landed E6, I'm a front-end engineer with tons of experience in the space. And I think I'm good at interviews (which is maybe part of the problem, and how I ended up possibly over-leveled!)
No TC yet, they're asking for my expectations. But I need to decide whether to ask for E5 or E6 first.
