Do these companies look for coding skills for director level roles in interviews? What’s the typical onsite interview looks like?
Engggggg
You'll have to have higher than Sr director at a Salesforce to apply to one of those as director. Salesforce has pretty solid title inflation (you are often offered director at Salesforce coming from an EM at one of those)
You will be expected to pass a code interview but its less critical. Design interview is still important.
I understand design interviews. But, code interview?
Yes, typically director level interviews will have at least 1/2 coding interviews but it is ok if you can not produce an excellent code, there will be 1/2 system design questions. Rest will be your knowledge about product, people management mostly. Salesforce management experience is valued because of their emphasis on empowerment. However, as some people have pointed out it is true that Salesforce has a lot more people with higher title compared to Google or FB. A FB or Goog director can be a VP at Salesforce. However it can not be generalized and it depend on an individuals past experience and credentials. In other words not all directors will get that jump and they have to pass the interview for the personnel skill which may not be easy. Again, some Salesforce director or Senior Director may get director level positions in those companies but the second set will probably be rare.
Do you have experience managing re-orgs? That’s an important director level skill at Google.
Same for Uber?
