In the previous promo cycle, my manager’s peer promoted her direct report, who was clearly not ready for promo. We were all surprised when we found out her promo went through.
Today my manager said she’s putting me up for promo because “clearly the bar is so low on this team”. She always tries to one up her peer, and uses her direct reports to achieve that.
I feel so confused. Should I question the promo or go along with it? I don’t understand M1 politics but I’m happy to ride it out if it benefits me. But should I be insulted? I’m so confused.
