Anyone have any issues with title discrepancies?

For example, as an L5, I input that my title was Operations Manager, but the background check marked it as a red flag discrepancy because the title from tax/work verification was OPSMGR2. Does anyone think this will be an issue?

I didn’t lie about being an L5 or inflate my title. To my knowledge, my title was always just “Operations Manager” in HRIS (even on my tax forms)

Don't worry about the "Discrepancy" notices, they are more for awareness. I've been on both sides of this process and as long as you didn't lie about company itself or didn't significantly add "years of experience" it should be no problem. I've recently complete Hireright process with a few such discrepancies regarding my title and no one question a thing.

Don't worry what you know is your job title / business title. On the backend of things HR has another title they use so that they can compare apples to apples when working with outside consulting firms to gather compensation data to determine pay ranges.

I suppose that is up to the company hiring you. Mine had discrepancies for similarly stupid reasons, but I was never asked about them

Okay, thanks for the note. I guess I could just wait for the employer’s response but was curious to hear if anyone else had this come up. I don’t know if there’s any way I would have known that my title was abbreviated this way unless I also called the work number to verify my info

  • It will be marked as something that is inconsistent, but they will often put notes that its simply a title mismatch. This is then sent over to the company that requested the back ground check. It is the company's choice on how to act on that, hireright itself will not give a hiring recommendation.
