Strange interview experience with Twitter

Currently interviewing for an ML role at Twitter. Everything is happening at a super slow pace.

Took a week to get my tech screen result (was positive), despite reminders about upcoming offer deadline.

Lately they asked me for my onsite availability, I sent several dates. Then pin drop silence despite a couple reminders. My available dates arrived and went, still no bite.

My impression is that I’m a low priority candidate, and they’re just trying to get their unicorns further in the process. Or maybe I’m just the first person being interviewed , and they’d like to have more people in the pipeline for more leverage.

Can anyone at Twitter comment?

  • Recruiting is massively understaffed and we’re dealing with bad attrition which has the effect of reducing the volume of interviews we can cover in a week, plus they are pretty strict about no-meeting Friday and for senior / staff ICs Mondays are also frequently meeting-free, and we have a holiday this weekend and general 2022 hiring is still slow as compensation finalization is a heavy load on everyone right now and there is somewhat of a waiting game to see who is going to quit this year before deciding what are the highest urgency roles to fill. I can guarantee any slowness you are experiencing is from that hot mess and not any personal sleight or anything.

Wlb is the same. Now is a good time to join imo. A lot of us were hit by joining at 60-70 on stock last year and it’s down to 35 now, so smart people are just jumping ship to get back to normal tc

This is mostly due to lack of recruiters and schedulers. Lack of recruiters means one recruiter hires for a few teams. Lack of schedulers means getting interviews scheduled is harder. Schedulers have a difficult time scheduling interviewers because of holidays, focus weeks (even though interviews are allowed), hack week coming up and no meeting Fridays.

P.S Finally heard back, and now I'm being told that this week is Focus Week, and next week is Hack Week, so teams will mostly try to avoid interviews. But they're trying.

Do you expect me to believe that this team, with an open position, will not interview anyone these next two weeks?

Thanks, had another question for you. When hiring for a role at Twitter, is the offer made after stackranking a certain number of candidates, or is an offer made to the first person that clears the bar?

We try to make exceptions during these two weeks depending on urgency of the open role.

Your recruiter is telling you the truth

I’d say it’s a good time to join bc our stock is low.
