Hi all,

I just received an offer from Facebook as an E4 candidate for an Android dev role. I have 9 years of experience overall but 1.5 yrs of Android dev experience. Can anyone provide insights on this offer ?

150k base
0 signing bonus
220k equity over 4 years

I’m in the process of negotiation but I am also considering potentially declining for an alternate offer with a higher base/signing bonus as a Senior Engineer and reapplying as an E5 at Facebook in a couple of years. Any insights would be great - thank you!

  • I don’t think declining just to re-interview in the future in hopes of a E5 offer is a good idea. You’re likely to get a promo, refreshers and stock appreciation in those “couple of years” if you sign with FB now. You’ll also be missing out on perks, really smart/great colleagues and FB specific knowledge that you’ll need to ramp up on anyway when/if you do make it in as an E5.

I second the opinion that you shouldn't decline and re-interview for E5 in a couple years. Why not accept, kick ass, get a good performance rating, and get promoted? If you want to come here, then come here. Don't kill yourself in the level. Worry about whether the comp makes sense.

  • You would be better off taking the offer and excelling at E4. Then get promoted. You may not get an offer in a couple years or still be offered E4 in two years.

Equity seems low. If you got about 350k then it would be more in line.
