I read through some old posts about work-life balance at Facebook. Not very promising :D I was wondering about the Boston office in particular. Anyone has insights?
I work in Seattle. My work life balance is awesome.
I walk by your office a lot. you guys seem chill to me đ
There is no work life balance in Boston. Everyone works like dogs.
I don't think there are many engineers in Boston, either
Yeah there is. In Cambridge, MA to be specific
I work in NYC. My work life balance is awesome.
When you say WLB is awesome, what's your standard? Feels like it depends for everyone. For me, something like 10-7 with minimal work on weekends, couple weeks on call a year would be awesome for FB. Is this what it looks like?
How about working from home?
People work from home on days when they need to, but it's generally appreciated if people work from the office. The exception is "work from home wednesdays."
I actually work in the Cambridge office and mostly stick to 10-6. If I end up doing work later in the evening or on a weekend it's more often than not due to my own procrastination. A lot of people with kids come in earlier and leave earlier. Oncall varies per team but I don't think any of the teams based in Boston have brutal oncalls and nothing approaches Amazon levels of it. Wednesdays are semi-official no meeting days and many people work from home. If you need to do so a bit more often it's something to work out with your manager and will most strongly depend on how productive / communicative you are when doing so.
