I have my onsite interview(virtual) next week and wanted to see if anyone has appeared for a Facebook DE virtual interview recently. Apparently it's going to be a combination of coderpad and google drawings. How was your experience with it? Any pointers on the ETL case studies or Python questions will be greatly appreciated! #facebook #fb #dataengineer #dataengineerinterview
I had one last week. For some reason the virtual experience was a little less immersive for me. The format could be a mix of coderpad (Although you don't have to execute any code) and Google Drawing. Depends on what the interviewer wants to do. Focus is more on SQL. Python questions are not that difficult. But the feeling I got is that speed is paramount. Your odds increase the more questions you answer optimally (always take scale and performance into consideration for both sql and python).
Thank you for sharing your experience. Even I have mine in a few weeks. In terms of Leetcode, what was the difficulty level of python and Sql? Did they give you scenario on which you had to do the python coding? Also, did they ask you to design a dimensional model? I’d really really appreciate if you could answer these.
Sql was medium ~ hard. Python was easy ~ medium. If you have good enough experience working as a DE then all the ETL scenarios are mostly practical things which you might have done at some point.
OP, how did it go ?
I appeared for my VC onsite this Monday. For the 2 ETL interviews, did well on the Product sense and SQL questions. Didn't have enough time to code the Python Q in round 1. Messed up Python code in round 2. In both cases, the interviewers understood my approach. Data modeling and SQL questions in round 3 went perfectly well. No clue how the behavioral interview went as the interviewer kept a poker face and even turned off his video after 5min. Honestly, could have done better with Python but got a little flustered I guess. Not expecting a positive response. Haven't heard back from the recruiter yet. Absolute radio silence since Monday.
If the interviewer understood your approach, that's a good sign and you may expect a positive response 👍
Did you hear back? Do you mind sharing your product sense questions?
Why is that almost every amazon person keeps asking Q's? How is it fair?
Did you hear update from recruiter?
Yea heard back yesterday. It was a reject. Recruiter called me and shared feedback.
Sorry to hear that. What feedback did they give, were the interviewers expecting something else that you thought? I have an onsite coming up and would like to learn from your experience?
It was highly specific to my performance. Basically you have to clear their bar when it comes to each individual category: Product sense, data modeling, SQL and overall communication and articulation. They found me inconsistent in one of these. They asked me to apply again after a cool off period.
Sorry to hear, I hope some other good opportunity might waiting for you
I would like to know what would they ask for Data Modeling ?
Are onsite case studies based on facebook product or is it general?
