I have two offers. One is Google L4 and the other is facebook E5. They have the same TC. The team at google is pretty good but I don't know what the team at facebook will be. I like scalability and ML. I don't know what are the expectations from L4 at google and E5 at facebook. For facebook, if someone is not at the level but working hard to close the gap, will they help him or fire him? For google, is it easy to get a promotion if you are performing at the next level? Also what is the culture difference between the two companies? Thanks

Facebook PIPs even average performers. Low performers can be managed out in under a year. They also have worse WLB, so you could earn less on an hourly rate, even if your TC is greater. Google almost never fires, but it is hard to get promoted. Even if you are performing at the next level, promotion to L5 could take years (and luck). Culture at FB values speed, delivery, and impact. Culture at G values quality over speed.
+1. Someone should sticky this. I think, as I read here often, e3 and e4 have longer pip period to get people back on track, whereas E5+ is pretty much instant death.
You forgot to add that if you are willing to put in the effort - you will grow and learn way faster at FB. Being able to ship your product and learn from it is invaluable
Idk, can only tell you what you probably know already: facebook has terrible wlb according Blinders. Getting a promotion at Google is luck on your peers like you enough and you better pray your team doesn’t get killed halfway and all of your work effort and accomplishment just don’t matter.
