Facebook L5 Data Scientist
I have an offer from Facebook L5 M0 with TC close to 320k in LA. I have more than 15 yoe. I currently manage team at Hulu and have no reporting offered at Facebook. @facebook folks - please help me with some insights. Is it easy to become a manager at facebook? How difficult is get promotion at Facebook? I really want to know how important is your manager at Facebook. my manager is going to be someone with lot less experience and obviously are no match with my experience. recruiter has tried really hard to sell me on facebook like how managers do not matter at facebook. #facebook
Is this data science, analytics? That’s a really strong offer for L5. That’s like SWE level.
Do you think software engineers earn more than data scientists?
Of course.
Ex Facebook here, promotions at Facebook are not easy. It will take at least 2 years and a LOT of work!! But they have no problem giving you the money so you pick money or title/responsibility! Good luck

I am interviewing for DS, Analytics role this week. Recruiter didn't say what level I'll be in. Should I ask right away? or wait till I complete the interviews? I have 7+ yoe
You should ask what level they’re targeting for the job. They may give a level or two and they say it depends on how strong you interview. And they usually share more on the total comp at least before the onsite interview so it’s not a colossal waste of everyone’s time. Your post is exactly why fb turns me off. I have a hard time thinking about being managed by someone that you should actually be managing
