Recently I had a phone screen with FB for EM role. The interviewer did not even turn on the camera, and just did an audio call.. said he is okay to do phone screening on audio.. started off with his introduction but then jumped to asking me his interview questions. It was weird that he did not want to know my background nor have some ice breaker to kick things off. Anybody had similar experience? Why should candidates even get familiar with the video meeting app and Excalibur whiteboard app when they are not going to be used in the phone screen ?

While it is strange that the interviewer was uncomfortable to turn on their camera, it is not shocking. Stuff happens, they were probably not in presentable state.
