I have an offer for an M1. I believe based on my experience I should be coming as M2, but they hired a M2 6 months before me and talked about how “flat” it all was. Comp felt low as well. What should comp look like for M1?
YOE ?
15 years
Initial offer is 196k base, 20% bonus, 335k equity. I was told over and over that there was plenty of room to move these numbers. It’s actually a pay drop for me now in both salary and bonus, but I’ve not had the counter discussion yet. Better to collect my thoughts than get all upset about being lowballed
I heard M1 FB gets 800K, so 335K seems extremely low....
Also M2 is hard to get at those top tier companies as it is more about size of team, number of managers report to you, etc. And Samsung to FB is not really considered as lateral move.
what role? engineering manager or data engineering or non tech?
Design
Like ux design or product design if so this may be a good number with sure to have some room on joining bonus
They could increase the base by 15- 20k and also in equity.
Ya equity seems very low. I’ve seen much much higher equity numbers
Seems like design gets a little less $$ than eng
That’s e4 equity. M1 should be compensated likeE6, so much much higher. Salary and bonus are typical.
What’s E6 comp? I’ve heard around 1M?
1M sounds about right but someone else should corroborate. I know your grant is e4 equity because I am/was e4. I also know a returning “rockstar” intern who was granted 300k as e3 :|
levels.fyi says M1 is around ~500k @joCJ63?
500k TC for a year. Looks like avg is around 200-250k a year in RSUs
The 1M number is for equity over 4 yrs then. Ok.
Do note that there is difference b/w sdm and data engineering manager or data science in that band
What have they offered you?
