Which is the better option for a senior SDE in terms of career growth and quality of work? I am currently working in AWS solving awesome problems but want to move over to a different work culture.
Better with respect to what
FB is the obvious one, but something about the way they are messing up democracy and social relationships don’t sit well with me. One way I’d look at this is if Azure wants you bad vs FB comes with an attitude of doing you a favor, go with Azure since growth is better
Facebook for the win.
They have vastly different work cultures. Since that's important, that's how you should decide
Azure. They’re killing it.
People give top much importance to the name of the company. I would much rather work on an interesting project in an unknown company than a shitty boring project in the most prestigious company out there. Basically my point is it depends on the team and the responsibility you'd have.
Early career days bias towards a big name one IMO, learn and work like crazy. Then slack off and enjoy the ride since you’ll already be much better than a lot of folks in other smaller companies.
Career growth: definitely Facebook. Quality of work: unsure what you mean by that one - ex Microsoftie
By quality I meant working on projects that are solving right customer problems and at scale.
As a Microsoftie, I have one advice. go to fb
How can Microsoft still poach quite a few principal level+ engineers from fb and G all the time?
We do have some teams working on interesting stuff, & I'm sure that MSFT is willing to extend competitive offers to people they really want.
