I recently interviewed with FB virtually, doing 4 rounds; 2 coding, 1 behavioral and 1 system design. I have been asked to do an additional coding interview due to insufficient signal. I assume this means I did well enough on my system design and behavioral rounds. It also probably means I tanked at least one of the coding rounds. Generally at Facebook, does this mean that my best outcome is getting a lowball offer, or is it not as bad as it seems?
I don't work at or know Facebook's process intimately. I'd assume if you knock this next one out of the park, you could still get a great offer.
That's good to hear. I'll do the interview regardless, but I'd like to temper my expectations before going into it.
In a similar boat, will keep you posted with what comes of it. I wasn’t told why they requested another interview however, and when I tried to ask they mostly just said it’s not uncommon.
Thank you! I will try asking too and see if they will give me any indication of it being neutral or negative.
I am in the same boat they asked for a follow up for me as well
Nothing to do with low ball offer. This means you did good/great in system and career which decide your level. So this good. Coding doesn't decide level. One of coding interviews had some conflicting signals. That's why there is a follow up. This isn't a second chance. Good luck.
Thank you for the response! By not being a second chance, are you saying they've already made a decision either way?
Say you got hire ratings from system and career. But both coding were consistently weak no hire. Unless you're a highly specialized engineer, this is usually a reject. We don't provide a follow-up coding as a second chance. Follow-up is needed for resolving conflicting signals in coding and problem solving. If you do a good job in the following interview, very high chance of getting offer.
Following this boat , since I have upcoming Fb interview. Keep this thread for updates
Yeah for sure
Was exactly in this sitiation. All the best do well in coding.
How did your interview go?
It went great and Got the offer.
Not necessarily. I got a great offer after 1 additional round of coding interview.
Thank you for the reply!
If you pass the second coding screen you will likely get an offer. That being said the Facebook hiring bar is a lot higher than people estimate, mainly because in addition to passing the interviews you also have to pass candidate review. The candidate review at Facebook, unlike the hiring committee at Google, is a lot more prone to failing people. My experience with the HC at Google was a breeze, but Candidate Review at Facebook was just as stressful as the interview. Do your best and hope for the best, but just keep in mind the chances of a rejection at CR stare are non-zero.
What is Candidate Review?
Thanks for the response! I'm staying positive, but also realistic.
I have gone through this twice at fb. First time they needed more signal on coding round and I didn't clear even in additional round.I think they are looking for specify things that you didnt do well in the first round. Fastforward this year, when I interviewed again, they needed more signal on System design which I cleared.
I guess we'll see what they want fron me!

What kind of questions were asked ? And what yoe ?
First was a data structures question. (pretty sure I did poorly on this one) Second was an algorithmic question followed by a dynamic programming question. 5 YoE
And how was phone interview ?
