Facebook onsite experience

Aug 5, 2020 22 Comments

Just had Facebook onsite. In the entire interview session, I gave my best without being nervous. I enjoyed the entire sessions. But now when I think more and more about my performance, i feel my performance was average and then I feel it was perhaps below average. Anyone wants to share your experience like this. I feel weird. Mostly I have a feeling that I have lost this chance. How do you guys come up from such thoughts n feelings post interview?

I felt practising mocks for system design is really important. I didn't do any mock for sys design. Even though I had prepared from sources like GitHub design primer (this is essential) , and many videos online. I had just practiced it by myself. But never did mock. And I felt I didn't do quite well. I started well. But half way through when I started my components - I could have done lot better if I had just practiced it in front of someone. So please do mock definitely

    • @op did you use touchscreen laptop or tablet for sysdesign? what sw to draw on digital whiteboard? i assume sys-design during these virtual sessions is an additional difficulty.

any reason you decided to move with virtual onsite not wait for in-person in spite of these additional virtual session issues?

OP, how was the system design round ? I am mostly concerned about that as in my current team there is no distributed system running at scale. I am doing AWS labs for hands on practice and supplementing knowledge from DDIA book. Is that good enough ?

Sucks. Interviews are a crapshoot. It could have been something really insignificant.

    • Yeah, that’s generally true! It still baffles me when I see people being so confident they aced everything when it’s almost impossible to tell. Might be doable for the coding part, but for system design saying you aced it likely means you don’t know system design. It’s usually best to expect the worst and hope for the best.

Nothing you can do now so don't overthink it.

How difficult was it? Questions from leetcode?
