Tc remote Midwest 130k. 5yoe Hey all, I'm about to have a second round with Facebook for Data Engineer position. I'm currently in the consulting and contracting world doing DE, Data warehousing, and Azure Cloud analytics. To me this is the future, but I can't help but want to join Facebook. What are your thoughts around my career growth and opportunities? Looking at the tools FB DE teams use, it seems the skills are not very transferable, business-wise...Thoughts on a career switch? Is working at FB worth it? Also heard they moved their PSC to yearly...so that's good
Dude .. work hard for the interview and get that offer. Everything else matters after that. And don’t worry that you would waste time by preparing for the interview. You can re-use that prep for other interviews
The tools they use may be internal, but the skills are absolutely transferable. And at some point in your career your stories become less about the tasks you executed, and more about the strategy you influenced. In that regard, there is a lot of room for DE growth at FB.
How are your stress levels? WLB?
Yoe?

The skills are absolutely transferrable, the comp will likely be significantly higher and the longer term prospects will be much better. The DE org has grown by an order of magnitude over the past few years and continues to grow. Growth brings career opportunities. You'll also be working with the very best data people. Do it.
How's the WLB?
Have you worked on other cloud platforms? For some making the switch from one to another can be challenging. Are you happy with your current role? Challenger enough and getting good TC?
I'm not challenged enough, but my TC is decent. 130k
Your TC at Facebook would be considerably higher
