For folks who were at fb, especially at Fb promo/calibration meeting could you share how fb approaches promo. Specifically How much emphasis on sustained impact/upward trajectory like google Is there an equivalent of swe ladder How does their move fast and break things impact tech debt How rare is it go an NI or Meets Most. For a senior IC/TL how does promo differ from Google and are there that many senior IC/TL like Google.
It assess precisely the ability to execute at the next level in a sustained way from now until forever. There is a swe ladder. People get credit for making significant better engineering (dealing with tech debt) investments, some people believe that not enough. Meets most and below is not common, but from what I hear- more common than google. You are expected to meet the expectations of your level every half, no excuses (unless out on a lengthy leave). If you dont, you'll get a meets most (but no risk of termination if overall trajectory is good). Promo process is very different because the manager drives the process and decisions are not made by some distant committee.

Why is Bay Area terribly dressed?
There is a swe ladder...that are the levels (e3-e8). There is a lot of tech debt due to the culture, but in recent years there is more incentive to shrink it.. (You are evaluated for "better engineering" initiatives... But you still need to deliver impact every half) Meets Most is around 10% of people.. 2 consecutive MM = PIP
Interesting. G's equiv of MM is NI. And it's 4%-ish.
