Facebook team matching. Confused. Need help.

I have a react, JavaScript, and node.js background, full stack engineer with 3 yoe. I wanted to work on the core product that people use when they go to Facebook.com, but a lot of the code is using php server side rendering to render the front end, instead of using react. Should I choose a team that uses react? That might mean I work on a team that Facebook’s users don’t even care about, like teams that are building data viz dashboards for sales people or advertisers. What should I do? Because I want to work on Facebook.com and work on stuff that billions of people use, but the tech stack is turning me off because the skill is less transferable if I ever want to leave the company. But if I work on a boring product, they at least use react. Any advice? Sorry I’m a noob and don’t really know what to do. My goal is to get promoted to e5 (came in as an E4 with 3 yoe). What’s the best plan for me? Should I not care about tech stack? Tc 245k.

For me personally, working on core product is better and more challenging.

I would pick the core product, if you ever need react in a future job you will always pick it back up quickly, but I don't think you should waste your chance to work on something that have a direct impact on other people.

Don’t care about tech stack. Don’t pigeon hole yourself as the “react/node” guy who can only work on “react/node”...

Choose something you don’t know well enough for broader knowledge

Go to the core team and push migration to React

Tech stacks come and go. Start getting used to constantly learning new things and not getting attached to any specific one. Also, basically any product at any company that has over a billion users will have some old legacy stuff because they all started when whatever the current shiny tech stack is didn't even exist.

You should be asking this internally. You’re in bootcamp right? There are big initiatives for React in Core product.

Yup, look into Comet

Ok that’s one thing I don’t understand. Who is responsible for migrating everything to comet? Is it the comet team? Or each team has to migrate their own stuff to comet?

Just ask the teams you’re interested in. Most likely you’ll be working on React.
