I'm a new grad and I got both offers from these two companies in Seattle office. The level is IC4 of software engineer. The base and sign-on/relocation are the same. RSUs look very close after considering the liquidity discount. I did internships at both companies so I roughly know the pros and cons of each company. This topic may appear before, but I just want to hear the different opinions, especially these following two aspects: 1. Airbnb Seattle office is quite small, even though relocated to the new permanent office. The manager of the team I'll join physically works in San Francisco and I'm not sure whether it can significantly affect my future career. 2. Facebook WLB does not look very good. I have family (no child) and I may need more free time. I'm not sure whether I'll still need to work very hard at Seattle to complete the 33-month promo mission since I probably have to highly compete with the young and energetic peers.
What is 33-month promo mission? Why 33?
Airbnb culture sucks at the moment. Heard a lot of bad reviews recently. Might change in a year’s time.
Is it mainly because Airbnb didn't plan to do IPO at this year?
No pick the team where you will learn the most. Also having the manager remote might be an issue for promotion. But you should talk to your hm at Airbnb once again and bring this up. No harm in asking how he/she handles reviews when their ic is remote. Since you are a new grad I suggest you pick a team where you will grow vs what you hear on blind about culture, wlb, etc.
Yes, you're right. I should ask how the review will look like for the remote employees. But on the other hand, I feel it's hard to tell whether I can truly learn more from one team than the other one, even in the same company. I feel it depends a lot on the team manager; however, I don't know anything about the recent Seattle Facebook teams before the bootcamp starts.
> The manager of the team I'll join physically works in San Francisco and I'm not sure whether it can significantly affect my future career. This is not ideal for new grads. Either ask to work in SF as well (you can always go back to Seattle after a year or two), or ask for a team with a manager in the same office. Alternatively, go to the other company.
Thanks for your suggestion.
Don't join either imo. Try for Google or Uber.
I have worked at Google and Uber and have friends in Facebook/Airbnb.
My resume was not selected by Uber. Don't know the reason.
