I have offers from both companies in Seattle. Company - Lev - Base/Stock/Signon Airbnb - L4 - 160k/346k/10k Facebook - E4 - 155k/250k/10k YoE - 7 yrs Current TC - 190k Both seem good options. From what I know so far, FB has bigger scale problems vs. Airbnb has backend/infra work with move to SoA. My work till date has been mostly in backend/infra. Which would be better for career growth? What is the outlook for Airbnb in terms of stock price when it goes IPO.
Based on what I hear the wlb in FB is bad. Are you on H1B or any visa? If so I might be inclined to pick FB. Given the current political situation. Otherwise pick Airbnb.
Yeah. I'm on H1B. Why does that come into consideration? As far as I've researched, as long as you get a bump in TC - you are less likely to get an RFE.
Not sure. FB has offices in several countries. They could ask you to work from remote offices till you figure out the visa situation. In cases there are any.
come join us! we need you more than fb
What level at msft?
Maybe join Airbnb first see whether it suites you then switch to FB if you didn't like it. Not sure whether you can request FB to join after a few months - like 10 or 12 months.
I would choose Fb. Cool thing about Fb is not only can you choose what you want to work on but what team/product you want to work on. So if you all of a sudden want to do something in ML or mobile, you can switch (ML will likely not be a main focus as it’s prealloc’d, but you can ask the teams if they would allow you to work on it).
Both are equally good and lot of interesting people working at Airbnb and fb. You can’t go wrong with your decision feel free to choose whichever will make you happy in a long run. Best of luck!
Go for Airbnb. You are young. Can take more risk and win bigger.
Go to Airbnb, Facebook will be around if Airbnb doesn’t “make it”, you can always go there. Facebook won’t be a trillion dollar company tomorrow. Potential reward is much higher at Airbnb and it can go 3-5x in 4 years, if they play their cards right.
I doubt Airbnb will go 3-5x in 4 years based on most recent valuation. I can see 2x, though. Not enough of a premium IMO to turn down FB since FB stock also has plenty of room to grow. If it was Airbnb vs IBM, that's another story.
When you say that it's not enough of a premium, do you mean in terms of growth or in terms of the value FB would add to my resume? Do you think FB's growth would be more than that of Airbnb in the next 4 years?
