I got offers from Facebook, Amazon and Twitch for Software Engineering (Entry Level) roles. L4 @ Twitch, SDE 1 @ AWS and E3 @ FB. I'm fairly new to working at big tech companies and at this stage in my career I'd like to prioritize career growth and opportunity to learn first before TC. Which one of these companies will be the best to grow and learn? Also, which one looks best on a resume —as a new grad (very important)? #swe #engineering #software Current TC: 185 YOE: 2
Twitch is Amazon Hard pass on Amazon Enjoy fb
lol. I love when folks from Amazon are salty about Amazon
Shits not 3.2 for no reason
New grad but 2 yoe? Also make a poll.
Worked during undergrad. Also did 4 internships
Doesn’t count, wouldn’t recommend trying to pass it as full time experience
Facebook. FB is like a slipstream for dev growth. Your entire goal is to perform and grow. If you dont grow by the deadline you get to be judged at the next level until you are out or make it. You have two years as a new grad. Managers want you to grow at FB. Amazon managers want to use new grads to save their long term top performers by putting you on a pip. Different story for experienced engineers. Twitch is unknown to me, but no way you grow faster there than FB in terms of training and resources. Edit: for transparency, I work at FB
What's in it for experienced engineers at Amazon. Enlighten me!
my friends that work there say they are pipped less and valued more but they dont seem happy either so...
Worked in both (FB and Amazon) Facebook will accelerate your growth in many ways. Both brand names are solid, though FB screams cool (at least in the Bay Area) If you were more experienced, I'd argue Amazon (flexibility in projects, wide range of choices, more established for vastly experienced engineers (growth wise)) but Facebook won't be far off.
How's wlb is either?
All dependent on the team you land in. FB can be really, really rough despite the glorification you see on here. Same for Amazon, though the proliferation of toxic managers is higher in general at Amazon. Note that Amazon has almost 2-3x engineers as FB so there's that. Difference is: with FB, you have so many perks and other things to console yourself with. Amazon is just ...work.
Keep interviewing
keep looking
Don’t come to amazon
Twitch isn’t that fun unless you like combativeness
