Facebook v.s. LinkedIn for internship

I'm very lucky to have received internship offers from both LinkedIn and Facebook. I see there's a post comparing the same two offers last year (and most people recommended FB), but I'm curious if anything changes this year? For what I've learned so far, LinkedIn pays slightly better and seems to have a better return rate (anyone to confirm?). But Facebook uses much more relevant tech stack. I'm really excited about frontend/full-stack projects at Facebook and the brand seems to be slightly more prestigious (according to Blind?) and could open up more opportunities even if I can't score a return offer. Any input is appreciated!

LinkedIn

Microsoft aoeX82 OP Nov 13, 2018

mind if I ask why you'd choose LinkedIn?

I really like the culture at LinkedIn. Facebook on the other hand might pay you more than LinkedIn. Both have pros and cons but if I were you I’d go for LinkedIn.

FB definitely has a better tech rep/brand/prestige

Depends on the team. Just look into the team you get matched at Linkedin. Some teams have really good work and you can learn a lot. Linkedin has a higher return offer rate. I can’t really comment about Facebook but keep these points in mind before u finalize

How would you even know what the FB return offer rate is?

LinkedIn Kaidoo Nov 14, 2018

Did you even read the comment? I literally said I can’t comment about Facebook. Didn’t mention anything about Facebook.

Do both. Facebook is flexible on start dates (can choose from winter, summer, and fall terms). LinkedIn has a much higher intern to full time conversion rate. Both have great intern programs. LinkedIn pays $45/hr + free housing. Fb pays $50/hr + free housing.

You know if fb has spring internships?

Yelp n1ck Nov 13, 2018

They skip spring. Not sure why. When getting the intern offer they give a doc on all possible start dates. January, June-Julyish, and then September

Are you all still in team matching stage?

OP this is a side question. How long did it take to heard back from LinkedIn after your interviews? I did mine for internship 3 weeks ago and still waiting ?

Yelp n1ck Nov 13, 2018

Took me 3 business days from last interview to get offer. I interviewed before peak traffic though. If you haven’t already, you should reach out to your recruiter.

I did and my recruiter said it takes 2-3 weeks

Worked at both. LI has better culture. You do get rewarded as well as FB if you similarly work your ass off. Take FB for intern and LinkedIn for FT. Msft > FB RSUs this time around.

LinkedIn Xbdjssi Nov 20, 2018

I had an intern on my team that had offers from both LinkedIn and FB. Towards the end the intern told me all his classmates who were at FB were way more stressed out because their return offer depended on their ability to complete some project. In the end, the intern did not accept the return offer because he decided he wanted to go work for a startup instead. 😀

LinkedIn psage Nov 20, 2018

That stress exists in LinkedIn too. Not everyone gets a return offer.
