Would love some insight on offers: Square L6 195K base / 740K RSU / 15k sign on FB: E5 185K base / 15% bonus / 500K RSU / 50K sign on Both are remote / Seattle. I expect FB to come back with a better offer but max is 200K / 15% / 700K RSU / 100K sign on YOE: 10 Wondering how you all value the differences in tech stack, career path, resume branding, culture, and stock growth potential.
What is this position for DS or SW
SWE
Congratulations. Was your interview really great? These numbers are huge!
Thank you very much. I put a lot of thought and preparation into my interviews. 100% tried my best and my performance reflected it.
OP .. what do you mean by lot of thought .. can you please explain more
Square’s mission is pretty cool and tangible.
Love that they empower small businesses.
I think Square stock has more room for growth, I would go with them
Or use fb sign on buy sq stocks
Sq L6 can do better
Thanks for responding. Can you clarify a bit more what you mean?
FB. Square has no cash bonus and minimal refreshers. Staff at Square = E5 as well - same as twitter and linkedin due to inflation. From your criteria, you would have better branding, tech stack, and growth at FB as well. But less title structure heirarchy like square if that matters to you personally. Remote comes into play too. FB will offer remote options but square might offer it in the offer now.
Just FYI, I wouldn’t call it inflation: Square L6 does correspond to FB E5, but it’s just a different numbering scheme — L6 has never been “staff” here. The Square levels, and their relationship to FB’s, have been the same for years and years. (Except for one numbering shift to align with the non-tech levels.)
what do square engineers start at?
Congratulations 🎊🎈🍾🎉! Can you share your interview preparations and experience?
For coding - FB asks exclusively leetcode questions, do the premium Facebook playlist and you should have no problem. Square is a genuine peer coding exercise with no leetcode questions. I actually loved working with the other devs from Square during the interview. For system design - do systems expert from algoexpert.io. Then find a tool you like - I tried physical whiteboard, iPad with Microsoft whiteboard app, or web app whimsical. I liked whimsical the best, but I practiced a lot to get comfortable. For behavioral - interview at amazon (I have a 3rd offer from them too but it’s not as competitive) and prep their LP questions.
What is LP question from Amazon?
Square all the way and it isn’t even close. Stock has plenty of room for growth, company has a great ethical mission, peers are fantastic human beings. You will work on meaningful problems that improve the lives of small businesses. What are you gonna be doing at Facebook? Optimizing ad revenue? Building a platform that enables the worst of our society to spread misinformation? Sure it won’t have quite the same name recognition of Facebook, but looking holistically it’s an easy decision IMO.
this is a pretty dumb take. FB is doing more than most including Square to help businesses in need during this time. https://about.fb.com/news/2020/05/introducing-facebook-shops/ Beyond shops, FB offers immense tools for businesses to connect and support customers for free via pages and messenger as well. People in FB can have a good chance to transition to square any time. The reverse isn't true.
"People in FB can have a good chance to transition to square any time. The reverse isn't true." Lol really? Why do fb recruiters keep messaging me? Getting a fb interview call for an engineer at Square is not difficult. Getting an offer is upto the individual and both companies have pretty good engineers. So your last statement is pretty dumb too. Not the OP btw and I don't agree with their view that there isn't anything worth/ethical to work at fb but it will be much easier to find such work at Square and we definitely have better culture overall.
Feels like a no brainer decision friend, Square’s offer seems objectively better in every regard Great job on your interviews, great offers!
Fb offering remote positions indefinitely?
Yeah there’s a fully remote option now
