As with several students, I've been looking for Summer internships. I was lucky enough to get interviews with some great companies, including Bloomberg and Facebook. Even though I've been given these opportunities, I keep fucking it up by just completely shitting the bed in my interviews. So far I've been rejected by 2 companies and ghosted by another 2. I can't seem to even make it to the second round in any interview. I only have a few interviews left, I'm scared that I'm just going to end up failing all of them. Some words of advice or encouragement would be really appreciated right now.
Hey homefry, dont sweat it. I didnt do internships and was <3 gpa but am rocking 500k tc now
At flowcast?
Do mock interviews with your classmates or go on Pramp
Would you be open to F5?
im opening to anything and everything, but sadly the final decision is not mine to make :'(
Hey there. Buck up. It's only internship. And u have only done 2 interviews. Don't count them as failures. It's only a failure if u don't learn from it. Squeeze out every last bit of learning from the situation. And then throw it away and look forward. It's not end of life if u don't get internship. Go take a vacation in Europe. Backpack and sleep on couch if u have to. U will learn valuable life experiences. Also keep trying for internship. Prepare harder. It's not you. It's just the preparation that's a bit lacking.
LEETCODE! GRAPHS! RECURSION! TREES! RUNTIME COMPLEXITY! YEAH!
I had something similar happen... Biggest thing I would recommend is to first of all... Put things in perspective. Meditation and being grateful helps. Perhaps therapy too... I was a mess back then and it translated horribly into the interviews. Next step, identify where you can improve and work on it. Focus on the process and pretend it's a game. During the interview try and be detached from the outcome and try to have fun solving these problems with the interviewer with a positive attitude.
I never did any internships (neither in undergrad nor grad school), had no problem finding full time jobs. If you don’t get anything just enjoy the summer, travel or whatever. And if you really want to work there’s lots of companies that aren’t tier 1 and easier to get into.
I don't even have a CS degree and I've been at Amazon for 6 years. If *I* can do it, so can you. Try to relax a bit more and don't put so much stock in internships. If you think, "I can't screw up, I can't screw up, I can't screw up", you'll have a rough time. Keep in mind there will be more opportunities down the line as well. Get your mind to treat these interviews as not that big of a deal. It'll help you relax. A relaxed you, is an amicable you.
Keep LC’ing. Also you probably should go for less competitive companies. My experience Amazon is pretty easy (hope you got a return offer), Bloomberg is kind of medium, Facebook/Google are kind of hard. Sorry to be straight forward.
Dijkstra's ghost cursed you for mocking his name 👻.
Do what this guy this, that I'm replying to, suggested to another user who has problems with the inability to quit working at night. I'll let him tell you the suggestion. :p It's good advice!
