Heard congress distributing wealth
Currently with 2 yoe, tc 140k Applied to 6 companies (Google, FB, Apple, LinkedIn, Uber, PayPal) and get onsite from all of them. Only get two offers in the end - Uber & PayPal, with around 200k tc. Is it common to fail 2/3 of the onsites? I feel really bad about it! How can I improve myself? I feel like the DS interviews are quite arbitrary and hard to prepare, topics could include ml, product, stats, AB testing, sql/python coding, leetcode. You basically need to be prepared for everything. For some of the companies, I think I did a good job, except that I didn’t get through one of the coding question or I didn’t give the exact answer for product case, and I failed because of that. Any ideas on what goes wrong?
I think this is pretty decent on-site conversion rate. Are these roles you are applying for more product analytics focused or ML? Also what’s the locations?
It’s common to fail all of them
Humble brag
Ds interviews are hard because you have to prep so many areas. On top of that, sdes make more 😂
I know that, so I will try to transition to MLE in the future. Currently I target for a DS - ML role where I can build some production ML models at least🤣
The interviews are arbitrary and hard because the job is arbitrary and hard. Depending on what you are on you will need to know different parts of the skills you mention. I went from credit cards to tech also and it was like drinking from a fire hose - don’t focus on your lost $10k in income (which becomes like $4k after taxes) and focus on learning and having impact.
Which uni did u do ms? 140k in visa is pretty low indeed
Are you sure?I think it’s quite standard for entry level DS at Visa. Around 120k base, 10% bonus, and 25k rsu over 3 years. This doesn’t include signon, I don’t know if you include signon for your calculation. But generally Visa pays much lower than FANG, especially stock.
Why do you think Visa pays a lot? Even Visa senior DS pays less than what I would make as L3 in FANG.
You got two offers with more than 40% bump. Shut up
That’s basically because the current job pays too low, far less than market value.
You have no work experience and have 140k. Shut up twice
