I am from India (H1b) employed at Juniper Bay Area - and I see people manage to sneak in 4 weeks vacation trip to home country (with 1 week WFH) especially in December. This is the only vacation or major break one can/could afford to manage, at least in Juniper. My question is : 1) How many times you faang ppl take trips/year (including both vacation and WFH trips) 2) Also are you allowed to let's say WFH from home country.... For 1/2/3 months (example if you have family needs/accompany). How common is this? I miss my family a lot.... since I get to visit only one time... For 3 weeks per year.... And I couldn't go in last 2.5 years due to visa issues
I rarely visit India any more. It is too dangerous for health and safety. It is much cheaper and better to fly my parents here. Eventually I hope that they will relocate here.
My plan (if it works out) is to... Join faang soon... And take two trips per year... Trip #1...in December.... 3 weeks to home country... No WFH at all Trip#2.... in june/July.... 2/3 weeks.....all WFH... No pto... Mostly Is this common or do-able??
Are faang companies flexible enough .. For above... Provided i am a good contributer with good performance
Depends on the team and the manager.
Too Dangerous! Are u nuts ?
I don't know why everyone is surprised to hear India is too dangerous to travel. Any place with state sponsored lynching of those who like to eat steak is dangerous.
+1.

I'm not married and yet don't enjoy traveling to India as often any more. Nothing wrong with the country, in fact I found it much more disciplined and cleaner the last time I was there. The super long flight and the fact that I'm left with no leaves to travel to other countries are the main reasons. I usually alternate between going there and getting my folks here. That way both sides get to enjoy.
Once in 2 years - for 3 weeks. Also WFH is a bad idea, we had to fire someone who said he would WFH and actually did not . So be careful.
It can also have significant tax implications, which some companies will try very hard to avoid. When WFH is in another country, this is you basically earning money in that other country, which can/will create tax liabilities for your employer.
Once every 2 years is my average. Most of my extended family is overseas in Australia and dubai... So I only have my parents to visit in India (and probably some old friends who are local) Since we talk every week on video chat and stuff, they don't miss me and I don't miss them to be physically with each other more often. I go for a month each time and It's working out for us.
Not India nor China (I m ROW) but I have not going back for 7 years. Perhaps I will never go back.
I go outside of December because noone is around during holiday season so you can make a second trip if you want. Also don't you want to go on other trips outside of going back to India?
Exploring other countries is also a priority, sometimes it is secondary.
I used to be like you fond of going back home but I've grown out of it. Having in-laws back home does that to you đ
