Seriously I have had it. I have a colleague who openly farts in the middle of a meeting in a conference room, sometimes at the desk and everyone pretends like nothing happened. Sometimes the farts are silent while others are loud. Silent ones are the real killers. I have had to leave the area a few times because I just couldn't bear the smell. Because of this, sometimes an active brainstorming session gets affected, people just want to get the fuck outta there. Im not possibly looking for a solution here but just had to rant somewhere. If you do have some suggestion, I'm all ears. I don't know how so called grown-ass high-skilled adults are so unaware of what they are doing in a social setting. Like for God's sake, bathroom is just around the corner, go take a dump.
They could have a medical issue and legit can't help it, but that's fucking disgusting 🤢
It's likely to be as embarrassing to them as it is upsetting to you. They are probably fully aware but may not know how to handle, and just thankful no one had made a scene or embarrassed them about it. It can be a real chronic medical issue they have no control over, such IBS. If it is actually disrupting work, then you or a manager could have a polite 1:1 conversation with them suggesting that they are free to excuse themselves even mid meeting to go to another place to fart if they feel one coming. As someone with moderate-to-severe Crohn's disease, in my case well-controlled with medicines, I sometimes have a lot of gas even when I don't have to take a dump. (And sometimes have to take a dump with little warning, but usually I have enough time that it isn't an emergency situation.) It varies with each person though. So please be empathetic to their situation but it's completely fair to bring it up privately. They may just need to feel like they have the team's support and understanding/permission to leave suddenly and comes back. They certainly don't want to feel like they'll be mocked behind their back for taking a fart break or something.
Good to know, I didn't know a medical issue like that exists. I'll try to find a way to have a polite 1:1 with my manager and them.
“Tell is about a time you faced a conflict with a teammate“
They may have stomach problems they’re trying to deal with. It’s not like you can WFH or be MIA all the time. Kind of a sensitive/personal issue.
"silent ones are the real killers" Loool hahaha. Always.
Yeah i mean OP should know that from self flatulation experience!!!
Is it filiable with HR? Toxic work environment
I giggled, on a serious note, I wish HR could have that conversation with them that everyone is asking me to have.
I think you should. That way if it's a medical issue, you don't break any privacy rules
You need to escalate, eat raddish and start farting back. Attempt to time your farts within seconds of his release. After a week your managers will have to address the problem to the person in question. This is the way of non violence.
Lmao who sits next to this guy must hate coming into work. Unless he blew everyone away
Yep, grow a pair and talk to them one on one.
No he should just rant on blind
