Hey everyone! I’m a product designer trying to get more comfortable at prototyping and leveling up my (very basic) front-end skills. One thing that always trips me is: I haven’t figured out an easy way to share a static website online. AWS/Netlify/Heroku are still pretty intimidating to me, so I was thinking of getting a web host with Hostgator or one of those older providers, and just use an FTP or something to update files quick and easy. I don’t want to be using Squarespace, Wix or one of those website builders, because I’d like to have full control of the front-end, as my playground/sand-box.
Hugo + Firebase
Was in similar boat. In fact I asked a similar question two weeks back. Using Hugo and firebase for my blog and it’s a bliss. Firebase hosting has been improved a lot. Sent you a DM explaining what my set up is.
Now from Zeit.co, or Netlify
Now isn't hard to set up, and once you have, deploying a new site is literally just typing `now` into your terminal
Either Github Pages or Netlify (Netlify bread and butter is specifically optimized for static websites so they ensure all workflow is optimized for that)
Host it out of an S3 bucket. Two steps: sync your website to the S3 bucket with the right properties on that bucket. 2: go to route 53 and point your domain to the S3 bucket

Or just get a $5 digitalocena box and setup nginx on it.
If it’s just for prototyping, you could run a server on your local machine.
Yup, but I’d still like to “share” it with others remotely/online Some years ago I used mamp/wamp but that’s probably super deprecated by now. (Lamp stack I think it’s called 🤔)
GCS or S3 bucket is an easy way to share a static site. GCS had a wizard IIRC.
Google Sites?
Firebase
Try Github pages
Awesome! Looking into it now. Just want to make sure I can point my own domain to it and remove any reference/branding of GitHub
You can. Source: have deployed my website on GH pages Also check out Gitlab pages. Between Bitbucket, Github and Gitlab, I recommend Gitlab
