Don't get it. You put 15,000 engineers on the infrastructure that you build from the ground up yourselves. That's a shit ton of wasted money, you could've used a public cloud (AWS, Azure, Google thing) and instead focus your efforts on making real impact on the world, solve customer problems and bring actual value. You reinvent the wheel and solve problems that have been solved. Facebook could have saved millions of dollars per year. Your infra team is always going to lag behind what AWS/Azure offers.
Wtf. Nobody uses cloud to save money.
false, use a search engine of your choice to find out why
Haha. Check out Amazon's earnings.
FB has a jobs program for people who’s skillsets were only relevant in a pre-cloud world We should have some compassion for these people writing python scripts and using ansible etc before they get put out to pasture someday
I don't get it. Check it out how many data centers FB has.
Op, are you from AWS sales team?
More like a L4 from AWS
It’s cheaper than aws and more scalable
Elaborate on the scalable
Well first off it took aws forever to be able to handle salesforce scale think About Facebook scale
Once you hit a certain scale, end to end control of infra becomes really really important. E.g. whatever metaverse thing they end up building can't be cloud native
Maybe like Amazon they like to eat their own dog food
ok troll
Dude really?

Cloud is expensive. Especially at Fb’s scale.
Why is it cheaper in your opinion to build a cloud yourself?
Or from a different perspective because you'll blindly start talking about scale like a narrow-minded engineer with no clue on business - what's the value added by building a cloud yourself versus using a public cloud and focusing the saved money on product development.
