hello eone: TC: 110K ( 100K base +10K QPB, APB, No RSU ). I completed my MSEE last year (Dec 2018). I did my Masters after 9 years industry experience in India. i worked in different industries which includes Defence, Automotive, and semiconductor. Over the years, I was involved in Test Manufacturing, ATE, Test Engineering and industrialization, Test Automation related activities. I did internship 3 months at semiconductor company and 7 months at Tesla during my Masters. I joined Intel starting this year at grade 6. After joining BLIND, I realised that I am underpaid considering my experience. Even if I only consider my grade, I am geting lower side of grade window. In addtion the work is not i am feeling cheated and want to gtfo asap. I want to target FAANG and want to start prep for the same. Want to understand... 0. Is it fine to discuss my unsatisfaction with my manager. 1. What ll be the programming expection for these YOE and skill set. Do I need to leetcode too? 2. Will be there any impact on profile of switching soon. 3. How to get call from these FAANG. please help...
110k in Bay Area? Holyyy....Texas Instruments in Dallas pays more for that and we have way way lower COL.
😂😂😂... Do not allow Blind put you in a position where you start hating your job. When you received an offer from Intel, I am sure you were super excited. Keep and maintain that excitement. Do your job. Unfortunately your YOE prior to moving to the US hardly matters in some circumstances. Sometimes you get lucky and they count it. Sometimes you don't. Do not be too focused on getting out of Intel and ending up impairing your performance. Do your job well. If you're asking if you need to Leetcode to get into FAANG, it means you're absolutely not ready for FAANG. Build your resume. Intel is a great company. You have been lowballed already. Your focus should be making sure you improve your skillset before trying to get a new job. Otherwise, Google might just offer you 85k base😬.
I completely agree. I just want to start prepping in a structured way to meet the FAANG expectation in parallel to or in aligned with my current work. Is the LEET CODE still important for EE guys who in general involved with test engineering stuff and hardware most of the time and use scripting languages to automate stuff?
I dont think you have been lowballed. You should have taken time to negotiate carefully. When I got a call to negotiate from HR, I let them know i am not prepared to have that conversation and I pushed the conversation. I watched youtube videos @ negotiation earlier.. so I made sure i at least got a range for my grade. I then looked up the average pay for my grade and compared against H1B approvals. I discussed my expectations with friends working here. I did my "negotiation homework". ... coz i did not want to be lowballed. My TC is 130k and grade 7. Grade 6 also gets ~130k. I think ...you should not make rash moves, learn from this experience , use the Intel brand name and keep prepping.
You are not underpaid if you can’t get an offer higher than your current TC.
First thing first, stop thinking you are underpaid, otherwise you will not sleep peacefully. second thing, stop looking at TC in blind. Learn as much as you can and when you are ready GTFO

Remember hardware pays low
Typically writing test scripts and automation scripts don't involve the most important aspect of coding, which is architecture. I've never done any leet code, but I'm assuming some of the more difficult questions have important architecture elements.
Blind is not fully true you know that right
Your prior experience doesn't matter much in Intel( hard to swallow but true). Your pay is not bad compared other people in intel Arizona. Start with C/C++ or python and Data structures and Algos if you want switch to a different role. What is your YOE?
Looks like Software is not your passion. You tried lots of things and also did MS in EE. Now after realizing you can earn much higher as SWE, you want to switch?
That’s true. I am targeting EE jobs at FAANG. Not interested in doing SE stuff.
The you shouldn’t need leetcoding like some other folks suggested. EE jobs (or ME jobs) are probably a bit harder to get because the head-counts are not unlimited unlike SWEs :(
I’ve said it before, but when you do a master’s after industry experience you essentially label yourself as a new grad. It’s just like admitting that your work experience was worthless. Internship experience doesn’t count as work experience. If you don’t live in the Bay Area then your starter TC matches your background IMO. You just came from India and want boats of money... Should have chosen software in that case. Stay at Intel for 2-3 years and then jump to Apple maybe. Don’t look at the TC people post on here. We all started at a much lower point. I started at a lower point than you and since then have have 116% increase with the first jump, continuous increases without jumps after that and over a 75% increase now with the second jump, but I had to wait patiently while being underpaid for years. Just so you know, if you try to negotiate your TC at Intel it will get you nowhere and only make things worse. Don’t rock the boat. I’ve tried in the past and even when managers value you and want to help you it’s a very hard thing to do outside of the performance process in big companies. Best of luck!
You'll probably feel even more cheated when faang will down level you with little increase to current TC. 0. Dont discuss any dissatisfaction with your manager. You feel cheated, and your heart has left the company I doubt they can change anything for you to stay. 1. Yes LC 2. Just interview and feel the market. Dont give 2 week notice until you sign an offer. 3. Referral

If OP times his/her interviews well enough and end up with multiple offers, he won’t be down leveled.
