Hi, I am promptly joining Amazon as SDE1 with 1 yoe. i asked the recruiter when I would be eligible to file for GC, he told me minimum 6 months with “within expectations” review. is this generally the policy, and if yes, how attainable is this? i am non-Indian/Chinese. thanks.
Some people are saying they would only file after two years and only if promoted to SDE2
That's what I heard as well.
i had mine started in week 1 when i first joined as SDE1. No one is going to block it as long as your manager approves it. And i believe Amazon updated it policies recently to allow everyone in tech to start the process from Day 1 no matter what level.
Do they also do the last step for sde1?
what’s the last step? The difficult part for SDE1s is the lawyers suggest it’s hard to get it through with public job postings since there will be many qualified american citizens when they do public postings as part of the process. That’s why they ask you to wait until you become SDE2 or at least close to be one(they will apply as an SDE2 since process takes at least an year and they expect you to be promoted by then).
GC is filled only for SDE2, but they start the process once the SDE1 joins thinking that they will get promoted in a year or two. I am a HM filled many GC applications for my team.
So when you say start the process, perm is filed whilst the employee is sde1 yes?
So the response to the question “When will GC process begin?” differs by SDE based on how long the HM/recruiter thinks the SDE1 will be promoted to SDE2?
Weird. I've heard you can start the process day 1 now at Amazon
There have been a couple of variations on what is being told so I thought I’d raise the conversation.
When I say I've heard, I heard it from my recruiter who sent me the official document which stated that
